VH1 Save The Music Foundation provides grants to public elementary and middle schools that do not currently have an instrumental music program in place. We work at the school district level to identify schools in need.
(June - October)
After initial contact, we will reach out to school district personnel (i.e. superintendent, music supervisor) to determine the amount of need in your area. The majority of our grantee schools are Title I, with a high percentage of students receiving free and reduced lunch.
(October - December)
A VH1 Save The Music representative will set up a meeting with school district leaders to further explain how we work and our partnership expectations.
(December - February)
With a firm commitment from the district, they will create a partnership proposal outlining their vision for building music programs district-wide.
(Until every child has access)
Once approved, we will work alongside the district until instrumental music education is in place in every elementary and middle school.
Application Opens on April 1st
Only qualified schools are able to apply to our invitation-only application (see above steps).

Our grant timeline with new partner school districts begins approximately one year before schools receive musical instruments.
We provide $35,000 worth of high-quality, new musical instruments to public elementary and middle schools. By offering a set number of instruments in our grant packages, we are able to jump-start beginning music programs across the country. Schools can choose from the following instrument packages, depending on their needs:
